Damta is a very interesting market. During the shooting of the film 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili', Raj Kapoor, a renowned personality of cinema or I should say the legend of Indian cinema, had come here. There are also some pictures of him while eating food on the walls of a local hotel. This was really an interesting anecdote.

Actually, Raj Kapoor was shooting nearby. In the evening, when the shooting was over and dinner preparations get started, Raj Kapoor expressed his desire to eat fish from his team. Apparently, when the fish was not found nearby, the team drove for several kilometers and reached Damta. Damta is known for its fish curries along with many other fish dishes as the fresh fishes are easily available here in abundance from the river Yamuna. Well, when the Raj Kapoor convoy arrived there, the shopkeeper was preparing to go home. Only some of his last customers were eating there.

A man got off Raj Kapoor's car and asked the shopkeeper about the fish. The shopkeeper looked at him and paid a nod in return. Shortly thereafter, Raj Kapoor came there and food was served to him. The shopkeeper didn't even have the slightest idea that a person like Raj Kapoor is sitting right in front of him. The incoming of customers late at night was not new in the place. Travelers go to Yamunotri via Damta only, so the late-night arrival of customers was also nothing sort of new. Coincidentally, a regular customer of the hotel, who was the manager of the State Bank nearby, came there for his night meal.

The State Bank manager had seen Raj Kapoor several times on TV and in films. At that moment, there was no limit to his surprise. It seemed as if he had been living the dream of his life... He went to Raj Kapoor and touched him. While touching him, his hands were shaking badly.

Raj Kapoor knew that he would be a fan. He kept quiet until that guy stopped touching him. When that person had stopped, Raj Kapoor asked the man 'How are you, gentlemen! It’s me... Raj Kapoor. The manager thanked Raj Kapoor for his humble behavior and quickly went to the shopkeeper and told him everything about Raj Kapoor.

The shopkeeper expressed his surprise and got back to his work. This was a period when only a few people used to have a TV in the mountains. Hurriedly, the bank manager himself sent a man of his own staff to call the photographer. About half an hour later the photographer was present at the spot. After seeking Raj Kapoor's permission, the manager took some pictures of him and he walked towards his car while admiring the food. Sitting in the car, Raj Kapoor called the owner of the hotel and placed a 50-rupee note in his hand. This incident is from 1984. Even today, pictures of Raj Kapoor are honoring the walls of that hotel in Damta. Even today, fresh and appetizing fishes are served here.
